Capture the recommendation you actually heard
A conversation can produce a promising book idea without creating an obligation to read it immediately. Record the title and author accurately, then add a short note about why it interested you. Keep that real connection rather than copying a generic description of why everyone should read it.
If the title is uncertain, mark the question instead of guessing from a similar cover. A clear unresolved detail is easier to check later than an incorrect title that gradually becomes the reference used for a purchase or borrowing request.
Keep the reason beside the name
The useful note might mention a subject you were discussing, a style of writing you enjoy or an actual question the book could help you explore. One specific reason is enough. You do not need a summary of a book you have not read or a claim that the recommendation guarantees enjoyment.
Where edition, translation or format matters, keep that detail distinct. Use accurate current information for the actual copy when choosing it. A familiar title does not establish that every version contains the same material or suits the same reading arrangement.
Separate possibilities from current reading
Keep the recommendation in a modest idea place rather than adding the book automatically to the active bedside stack. A possible future read has a different role from the book you are currently using. That distinction can keep a pleasant suggestion from becoming another visible unfinished task.
If several recommendations accumulate, review which ones still have a real appeal. You can remove an idea without judging the person who suggested it. The note exists to support your choice, not to preserve a permanent record of every title mentioned in conversation.
Choose a next step only when useful
The next action may be checking whether an appropriate copy is already available, asking the recommender to confirm a detail or leaving the idea for later. Do not buy immediately merely to make the note feel resolved. A considered decision to wait is still understandable.
Keep borrowed-copy arrangements separate from the recommendation. If someone offers their own book, agree identity, care and return directly. A friendly suggestion is not permission to assume an unlimited loan or pass the copy to someone else.
Close the note when its role ends
Once you choose, update the one current reference. If the book is read or the interest has passed, retain only the information still useful to you. Avoid scattering the same recommendation across several notebooks and shopping lists.
A small accurate note can preserve the pleasure of a shared reading idea without building another project around it. The useful result is a title you can identify, a personal reason it appealed and the freedom to decide when or whether it belongs in your actual reading life.
